Pokémon

Pokémon, short for “Pocket Monsters,” refers to a media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori, first launched in 1996 by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. It centers around fictional creatures, called Pokémon, which humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train to battle each other for sport. The franchise includes video games, trading card games, an animated television series, films, merchandise, and more. Each Pokémon species possesses its unique attributes, types, abilities, and evolutionary traits. The core gameplay typically involves capturing Pokémon, training them, and battling against other trainers, with the overarching goal often being to become a Pokémon Champion or to complete the Pokédex, an in-game encyclopedia of Pokémon species. The franchise has grown into one of the most successful and recognizable brands worldwide, promoting themes of friendship, teamwork, and adventure.
